BSC Completes Conservation Easement on Oak Openings Land In September 2004, the Black Swamp Conservancy protected its 25th property by placing a conservation easement on 40 acres of Oak Openings land adjacent to the Maumee State Forest. The property, now owned by the Toledo Area Metroparks, features a mix of oak woodlands and forested wetlands. BSC partnered with Metroparks and Ducks Unlimited to secure grant funding to preserve the property through the Clean Ohio Fund, as well as the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA). This collaborative effort is an important part of the Green Ribbon Initiative to save the Oak Openings region. |
