Protecting and preserving natural and agricultural lands for future generations

The Black Swamp Conservancy, a land trust, is a regional, non-profit organization established to directly support the conservation of land and water resources in northwest Ohio.

BSC is one of over 1,500 land trusts across the United States dedicated to conserving land through private action. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, all gifts and donations to the Conservancy are tax-deductible.

BSC was formed in July of 1993 by a group of citizens who were alarmed by the rapidly accelerating rate of development in rural northwest Ohio. These people recognized the need to protect and enhance the best remaining natural and agricultural areas in this region and promote responsible stewardship of the land.

Our supporters are people who want to preserve the integrity of their communities as they continue to grow. Proper community planning to protect native habitats, agricultural areas, and scenic views will help to enhance the quality of living today and forever.

Since its founding, BSC has grown into a respected regional land trust, governed by a diverse board of trustees and operated by a knowledgeable staff serving a geographic area larger than the state of Connecticut.
